If you have no background in Python and want to learn it from the comfort of your home without wasting time commuting and do not want to pay fees, then this blog is for you.

I have been asked this question several times, how to learn Python programming language if one is interested in Artificial intelligence, Machine learning and Data Science. Today, I am sharing the path I followed. A Few years ago, I became interested in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and got to know that I need to have knowledge of Python programming language for learning AI. I decided to learn Python and when you want to learn something new the very first issue is where to start.

After an extensive search and comparing many different courses, I found a course on MIT open courseware called “Introduction to Computer Science and Programming in Python”. It is intended for students with little or no programming experience. If you have never heard about MIT open courseware, check out this link. There are tons of free courses available and the best part is all these courses are taught by the knowledgeable professors at MIT.

Next, to have a better understanding of data structures I completed “Python Data Structures” offered by the University of Michigan via edX. This course introduces the core data structures of the Python programming language. edX is another platform to take online courses, the courses on edX are offered by universities all over the world. They have even started offering Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.

After this, I started Micromasters in Data Science offered by the University of California, San Diego through edX and in this program, the very first course was “Python for Data Science”. This course introduces you to a collection of powerful, open-source, tools needed to analyze data and conduct data science.

This is my journey of learning Python. I took all these courses online and just paid for the Python for Data Science course in order to get the certificate. The exciting part is all these courses are offered by some of the top universities in the US. If you want a certificate, you have to pay otherwise you can audit these courses for free. Let me know in the comments below if there are any other courses that you would like to recommend.
